Ukraine became a member of two UN commissions

The Ukrainian side on Tuesday, may 7, was elected to two commissions of the United Nations: the Commission on narcotic drugs and the Commission on population and development.

The permanent mission of Ukraine to the UN said that our state is a member of the commissions for 3 and 4 years.

– stated in the message.

What is known about the duties of the commissions?

The powers of the Commission on population and development are issues of population, strategies for its integration and development, the formation of councils of government policy in this area. It forms part of one of the most important UN bodies – the Economic and social Council.

At the same time, the UN Commission on narcotic drugs and the Secretariat in the form of the UN office on drugs and crime is responsible for combating drug trafficking and crimes connected with their illegal manufacture and distribution.

By the way, in February the UN has established a pooled Fund for humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. Many countries have already donated millions of dollars to residents of Donbass, suffering from armed conflict. Assistant UN Secretary-General for humanitarian Affairs Ursula Mueller added that overall requirements for humanitarian assistance to residents of Eastern Ukraine on both sides of the demarcation line for the year 2019 amount to 162 million dollars.
