The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky spoke at the briefing along with the leader of France Emmanuel Macron in Paris. The broadcast led TV NEWSONE.

“A lot of plans, but about all the time talking is not so – the main thing. First and foremost, I want to thank Mr. Macron for the invitation. Today is my first bilateral visit abroad as President. A new level of partnership between Ukraine and France will be one of the key directions of my foreign policy,” said Zelensky.

He stressed that he had a warm and constructive conversation with a Macron. First and foremost it was about the restoration of peace in Ukraine is his priority and the human position.

“I am convinced that Europe cannot feel fully secure until Russia pretends that international law does not exist. France and the rest of our partners know and understand, it hurts every Ukrainian. Nobody wants to see Ukraine become a powder keg, where the Crimea and the Donbass – fuse”, – said the head of Ukraine.

Zelensky added that it is impossible to establish peace by military means, because it would be too expensive – in human lives.

“The only key to peace is through diplomatic and sanctions pressure, so I get to keep it. And I hope that the leadership of France in the G7 this year will contribute to this issue”, – said the President.

He expressed gratitude to the firm and consistent position of France in condemning the actions of Russia in the Azov sea and Kerch Strait.

The leaders also discussed the intensification of Ukrainian-French relations and the common interest to make a breakthrough in high-quality, two-way cooperation, which is already developing quite rapidly.

“As an example, I was recently at the signing of a contract between the Ukrainian and French companies for the construction of a plant for the production of oxygen to a metallurgical plant in Mariupol. This is an important investment in the city, which is located a few kilometers from the front line”, – said the head of state.
