“Russia, by definition, not supposed to be able to manipulate the monitor on which we agree. That is, for example, Russia’s attempts to tighten the specialists from Germany and France to the port of Kerch and so politically trying to legalize the occupation of the Crimea is impossible”, – said the foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin after such negotiations.

The emergence of the OSCE observation mission in the Kerch Strait may not take place for several reasons.

“That is exactly the idea of the mission a lot of questions, but if Russia would agree even for the simultaneous visit, I think France and Germany would have to go for it. Don’t forget that in 2015 Russia will not allow Crimea in a mission of international organizations”, – said the expert on international Affairs Anna Shelest, underlining the complexity of the emergence of observers in the Strait

Sources also told the publication that the new OSCE mission they need a new mandate. In the Ukraine insist that the observers have a mandate on the entire territory of our country, including those waters that are “assigned” himself to Russia.

At the moment, consultations with international partners continue. Ukraine and Germany to discuss the opportunity to hold separate meetings of experts to define the modalities of such a mission.

“Such consultations can be held in the framework of the meeting of the Normandy four, which will take place in the near future”, – said the foreign Ministry of Ukraine.

Ukrainian diplomats also hope to raise the issue of the crisis in the Kerch Strait at the meetings in the framework of the Munich security conference, to be held in February. There also plans to go and President Petro Poroshenko. The delegation from Russia headed by Minister of foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov.

  • On November 25 the Russian ship rammed the tug of the Ukrainian Navy in the Kerch Strait, after which Russia used weapons and captured three vessels. All 24 members of their crews were captured, three sailors were injured.
