Because of illegal archaeological excavations, 28 Russian scientific and Museum institutions may fall under sanctions.
Over the past five years, the Russian Federation is actively conducting illegal archaeological excavations.
The Department temporarily occupied territories and internally displaced persons of Ukraine initiated the imposition of sanctions by 28 scientific and Museum institutions of the Russian Federation, who conducted archaeological excavations in the annexed Crimea. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry.
“Over the past five years, the Russian Federation is actively conducting illegal archaeological excavations. The excavation attracted a number of leading scientific and Museum institutions of the Russian Federation. Active participation in archaeological excavations are taking the Crimean scientific institutions, which had been illegally registered as Russian legal entities”, – stated in the message.
Some excavations took place in the framework of construction of transport crossing through the Kerch Strait.
“For the period 2014-2018, the Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation received more than 90 orders for the issuance of permits for archaeological excavations on the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Mr.. Sevastopol,” – said the Agency.
