Ukrainian biathlete won the bronze medal in the European youth Olympic festival

Biathlete Stepan Kinash received the first award for Ukraine at the XIV winter European youth Olympic festival, which takes place in Sarajevo and Eastern Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina).

In the individual race at 12.5 km Ukrainian at four loops made only one mistake, showed good speed at the distance and won bronze medals in the prestigious forum.

Recall that in the framework of the European youth Olympic festival involves over 900 young athletes aged 13 to 17 years of age from 46 countries of the Old world that define the strongest in 8 sports.

Ukrainian athletes represented by 22 athletes in five disciplines: Alpine skiing (4), biathlon (8), skiing (4), skating (2) and short track (4).

What is the European youth Olympic festival? In 1990 at the initiative of the International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge was made a decision on holding one every two years, winter and summer European youth Olympic festivals (EYOF).

The representatives of Ukraine under the auspices of the National Olympic Committee are taking part in the competition since 1993 (in 1991, Ukrainian athletes competed in the national team of the CIS). Since 1993, winter and summer EYOF young Olympians were received 185 medals – 58 gold, 66 silver and 61 bronze medals. Over the years, the participants of the festival were: Olympic champion Olena Pidhrushna (biathlon), prize-winner of world and European Championships in biathlon Anastasiya Merkushyna (biathlon), Olympic games participants Yaroslav Panic (figure skating), Dmitry Mizak (skiing), and others.
