Ukrainian tennis player set a national record in the WTA tour. For the first 5 of our athletes will participate in the tournament series Premier Mandatory in the main draw in singles.

The basis was claimed to be Elina Svitolina, Lesia Tsurenko and Diane Yastremsky. Ekaterina Kozlova and Martha Kostiuk overcame the sieve of qualification.

In the first round, our girls received the following opponents: Elina Svitolina – Pauline Parmentier; Lesya Tsurenko – Angelique Kerber; Diane Yastremsky – Karolina Pliskova.

Martha Kostiuk and Ekaterina Kozlova can play with another player of skill, or with anyone of the following players: Alice Mertens, Simona Halep, Daniel Collins, Sloane Stephens, Barbara Strycova or Zhang Shuai.

Also in doubles in Madrid will start sisters, Lyudmila and Nadezhda Kichenok.

The current classification of the WTA tournaments were introduced in 2009. At the same time the Ukrainian record in Madrid mounted Olena Bondarenko, who reached the quarterfinals, losing to future champion Dinara Safina.
