The U.S. Department of Commerce announced that it is ready to go to the “unprecedented measures” to avoid shortage of rare earth metals.
The main supplier of such items to the United States is China – it accounts for about 80% of imports. Availability of rare earth metals depends on the fate of the high-tech industry, including the development of military facilities, wind turbines, electric vehicles.
The Doc said that the United States visokosolska from supplies of rare earth metals from China, and their importance is often underestimated.
“If China or Russia will stop supplies of REE States or its allies for a long period, similar embargoes in force in China in 2010, such failure can create serious shocks in the U.S. and international supply chains of these important minerals”, – quotes “Interfax” the words of Wilbur Ross.
Among the measures which are planned to be Doc – strengthening the development of American rare earth deposits, reduce the bureaucracy in the issuance of permits for mining operations. Reserves of rare earth metals in the U.S. is 1.4 million tons.
