BMW 1 Series next generation will switch to the new platform and will be electrified
Long time BMW 1 Series on a par with the older models used a classic rear-wheel drive layout. However, in 2017 at the auto show in Guangzhou was presented to the sedan 1 Series in the back of F52, based on front-wheel drive modular platform UKL2. It is equipped with only a compact four-cylinder turbo engines with a volume of 1.5-2.0 liters, and it was expected that the hatchback will borrow the concept.
However, according to the latest data, it became known that the hatchback will have a completely different platform. As informs the British edition Autocar, the third generation 1 Series will be based on a new platform FAAR, which was developed just the same with a view to electrification: on this basis it is possible to create not only petrol and hybrid versions, but a fully electric version.
The base for the new 1 Series generation is going to be updated three-cylinder 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, whose power has not yet been disclosed. Also will remain in service and 2.0-liter engine that will be offered in several versions, is not going anywhere and diesels.
